HYPNOTHERAPY – AN OVERIVEW

Hypnotherapy is proven to have a powerful and positive influence on our thoughts, feelings
behaviours and act.

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind. It creates the time and space needed to make positive changes in our brain so that we can be reprogrammed for success. So that we can achieve our goals and ambitions. Everyone can be hypnotised, the best hypnotherapists will take the time to match the right techniques to your hypnotic personality.

“Each of us has the capacity to change and improve our life by harnessing the power of our subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy makes it possible for us to tap into that power and use our brains to make impressive changes in our thoughts, feelings and behaviour – so that we can live the life we dream of.”
Susan Wallace, Consultant Hypnotherapist and Senior Instructor

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind. It is the ultimate mind-tool that allows access to the subconscious part of the mind –the part that does not think but just reacts. It is in the subconscious part of our mind that all of our habits, feelings, reactions, beliefs and emotions reside. Hypnosis give us access to those programmes so that we can update them to better suit our needs. Hypnosis is the fast and effective way to eliminate bad habits and unwanted behaviours and to make positive changes in your life. Hypnosis is a powerful tool and it is completely safe when used properly by a competent hypnotherapist.

How does it work?

Under normal circumstances a hypnotherapist will induce a state of comfortable relaxation and use imagery to guide the unconscious mind towards a state of hypnosis. Supportive suggestions and commands are then implanted in the unconscious part of the mind. With a range of techniques at her disposal a hypnotherapist can help encourage new synaptic pathways so that new and useful behaviours can take effect. By creating new pathways between neurons in the brain and through repetition, reinforcement and encouragement desired behaviour becomes inevitable.

But what does that mean?

Take for example, if you want to lose weight, the first thing to do is to change the way you think about yourself. Don’t think yourself fat and unattractive. Negative thoughts like that deaden the impulse to eat properly and set up a pattern for failure in the brain. Begin by visualising yourself as slim, attractive and confident. Then, with the correct hypnotic programming your body will begin to fit the new slimmer confident image you have created in your mind. Your body will work to find a way of realising your goal. You will then respond to the hypnotic programming by eating, thinking and behaving like a slimmer person.

BY CHANGING THE WAY YOU THINK YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

Stress, Anxiety and Phobias

Phobias can be removed quickly and easily, often in less than 20 minutes but creating lasting success does takes longer. With good hypnotic techniques programmes for success can be established to bring about lasting success. Once these new patterns to remain “calm, relaxed and confident in every situation” have been rehearsed and practiced thoroughly, a good hypnotherapist will ensure they become part of your unconscious programming so that you react to stressful situations by staying calm, relaxed and at ease.

Simple hypnotic tests are provided by well trained hypnotherapists that will prove that you are in a beneficial trance state. However, the ultimate test is when you have quit smoking, conquered that craving, said no, took a flight to a sunny destination, overcome that challenge or got rid of that phobia or simply claimed back your self-confidence and motivation.

How long does it take?

Hypnotherapy, done properly, usually does not take more than a few sessions. Instead of focusing on why you have a problem, a good hypnotherapist will concentrate on removing the faulty programming from your subconscious mind and will endeavour to help you to establish new, strong neural connections that will train your brain to be successful in your chosen goal.

For many people, smoking and other bad habits, phobias and specific food addictions can be conquered in a single two hour session but that isn’t the case for everyone. If you require motivation, encouragement or if you want a “magic fix” it is better to budget for more sessions to ensure you learn and can apply the techniques to your life after hypnosis.

It is also worth bearing in mind that some problems are symptoms of an underlying issue that may need to be addressed before success can become a permanent feature of your life, if this is the case it may require a greater investment of your time and commitment. A good hypnotherapist will know the appropriate techniques to get the best results and give you a good estimation of time and costs involved.

What is Self Hypnosis?

Self-hypnosis is the art of using hypnotic techniques on yourself to achieve your goals and control your destiny. If you do not programme your own mind the world will programme it for you.

By assuming rightful control over your thoughts you can indeed change your life. Self-hypnosis allows you to take that control. Many hypnotherapists will teach you how to hypnotise yourself.
